A fresh take on vintage design, the charming Charleston Bench is crafted of wood and accented by cane on the back and inside and outside arms. Featuring intricately-shaped legs, the piece is finished in Haint Blue, a soft color which can be found on the ceilings of porches and entryways, window shutters and doors in the American South, dating back more than 200 years from the Gullah folklore that held the color kept “haints” or spirits from entering homes and dwellings. The cushion is upholstered in the Oyster performance fabric for stain resistance and cleanability.
Imagine a coastal breeze drifting through aged oak trees adorned with Spanish moss, gently ruffling the magnolias alongside historic homes, buildings, and churches that frame the cobbled streets of old. It is here in this tranquil stroll through southern lore, that the inspiration for “Charleston” was born. Charleston is a whole home collection that embodies the area’s classic traditional charm, coastal retreat, and refreshed English heritage. The traditional soul of the collection is set apart by translucent cathedral cherry veneers, exotic walnut and maple inlays, age worn black cherry accents, and custom antique burnished hardware. The collection also offers a more casual West-Indies inspired design using various materials that harken to the open sea where trade ships of the past carrying exotic spices, fabrics, and foods would dock along this southern jewel. As one would expect to see in the fabled shops along King Street, an array of pieces draped in finishes of weathered whites, yellows, greens, limes, and blues, intertwined with woven elements and linens are available to make each home its special place. Haint Blue: A soft blue color which can be found on the ceilings of porches and entryways, window shutters and doors. Inspired by Gullah folklore brought to the American South more than 200 years ago to keep "haints" or spirits, which could not cross water, from entering the home or dwelling.
Hooker Furniture utilizes a multiple-step finish process of up to 16 finish steps. This results in an unsurpassed clarity, depth and color richness and durability to our finishes. Through hand-craftsmanship such as rubbing and padding, our finishes feel as good as they look, with a smoothness that is delightful to the touch.
Hooker Furniture uses carefully chosen solid wood and select wood veneers over durable wood products in our furniture construction. Use of veneers enables more decorative looks unattainable with solid wood. Veneers are used over durable wood products such as medium density fiberboard (MDF) and particle board, made of renewable resources. MDF and particle board are used in quality furniture for areas that need to be stable, such as large surfaces. These durable wood products do not expand and contract with heat and cold and do not absorb moisture as much as solid wood, which results in stronger and longer-lasting furniture.
